There is no denying that we are now living in a network world and that there is no longer barrier to connecting and communicating with those far away from us physically; all thanks to social media networking sites.
Having said that, one would expect social media and network marketing to go hand in hand, however, that is not the case as so many people that are involved in network marketing are doing the wrong thing with social media and that really bugs me!
I can not thank the organisers of the 100 Days Biz Builder Challenge (Jordan Schultz and Adam Chandler) enough, as getting involved has made me more visible on social networking sites especially Facebook. I have received more friend requests in the last two weeks than ever before and the requests were not from just the people who are involved in the challenge but also people who came across my contents on Facebook.
Whilst this is a good thing, it really bothers me that as soon as I accept some of this friend requests, I get messages asking me if I am interested in this opportunity or open to that opportunity. Common! I’ve only just met you and you want to walk me down to the altar? Forget that I’m already married!
People are going out trying to make friends and connecting with total strangers and then embark on introducing them to their network marketing opportunity. This is indeed bad marketing as you are suppose to have relationship first, find out about each other and then see where you can help.
We are so fortunate these days that we have so many means of connecting and communicating with people that are thousands of miles away from us. So much so that when you are relating to someone who is miles away from you, you hardly think about the distance.
My point is that if you are reading this post and you have been thought to connect with people and then push your network marketing opportunity onto them before someone else gets to them, I tell you it is BAD MARKETING! People only do business with those they know and trust. It is also very rude, inappropriate and bringing bad reputation to our industry. If used properly social media and network marketing can be a perfect match, as they they complement each other nicely.
I’m not quite sure how successful these people have been in recruiting to their businesses in this manner. One thing I am very certain about is that if they are lucky enough to recruit, the people they recruited are not going to stay with them for long. Do you know why? Because they have no marketing skills to offer their downlines and so after a while they get frustrated and leave!
Now the basic step to take if you are going to tap into the benefits of social media and network marketing are:
- Make yourself valuable – learn and take action
- Connect with people
- Build relationship
- Share what you know, have learnt
- Find out their problems
- Tell them how your product and/or services can help them solve their problem.
One thing that has come out of these bad marketing that has been going on around me is that I decided to actually tell these people (POLITELY) how distasteful their marketing tactics are and then explained to them (the ones that really care about their business) how they too can tap into the same MLM Training Package that has helped me so far.
