Honesty is a crucial leadership characteristic. Any good leader must be trustworthy. No matter what you do, make it a goal to be honest and trustworthy. Once people know you are reliable and trustworthy, they will have a higher level of respect for you.

Look for talent in others. As you look for people to work for you, this will help you decide. This also applies to contacting and hiring people for your small jobs.

If you focus on your team, the work will get done as expected. Work on being inspiring and encourage those around you. Avoid micromanaging your team. Trust that you have delegated responsibilities appropriately and offer assistance in helping your employees reach their goals.

If you are the leader of a group, you have to show the members that you appreciate them. It does not take long to write a note of thanks, but it might mean the world to someone who’s working for you. Their day will be brightened and their mood lifted; and, it’s free!

Be prepared before speaking to the team. Consider any questions they might have. Be sure you are considerate and think of good answers pertaining to their questions. Your team will respect you more when you have the answers they need. It does also help to speed things up.

While it’s important to set goals for the people that work for you, be sure that you’re not setting impossible goals. This just sets your team up to fail. This strategy will also demonstrate your lack of leadership skills.

Your team is going to judge you by your actions. They way you mete out responsibility, fire, hire and promote others will help them form opinions of you. Being biased towards one person can breed resentment and disrupt work flow.

You should do a lot more listening than talking. If you want to be a good leader, it starts with hearing. Don’t just hear that your employees are saying something, make sure you listen, too. Listen to what they say, both the good and the bad. Employees can have great suggestions for many things, helping move the team forward. You can learn a lot from them.
